The vice provost supports the General Counsel and the Director of the Harvard International Office on issues that include how U.S. regulations affect the ability of non-U.S. citizens to study or work at Harvard. The vice provost also fosters the collection and maintenance of information regarding Harvard’s non-U.S. activities.

The vice provost supports the Harvard College Office for International Programs in the efforts to develop new international educational opportunities for Harvard undergraduates, and the research centers and the Schools toward the same end regarding graduate and professional school students.

The current vice provost is also Senior Adviser to the Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Sciences for International Affairs. In this capacity, he works with Deans, center directors, and professors within this Faculty to improve international research center governance and foster coordination between the international centers, facilitate their work in support of graduate and undergraduate research and education, manage their use of physical space, and foster various other means of inter-center collaboration.
